Floral brooch with two-pin latch.

This brooch reminds of a window frame used as a trellis by climbing plants. To grow your own plants you need time and attention, which are both hard to spare for people leading an irregular lifestyle. Nevertheless, the symbolic content of plants –peacefulness and life – is of utmost importance. Peacefulness and life are in all of us, but from time to time, we need to be reminded. This brooch acts as a wearable note-to-self. However, it is made of metal. This guarantees permanence also in moments where other things are more in the focus.

Notwithstanding the floral impression, I never intended to reproduce nature. The design is heavy on the abstract side, which gives the piece a technical feel despite its intimacy with nature. The flower‘s neon pink colour also underlines the fact that this is not nature.

The frame consists of a tube section open on one side like a track. This forms the rigid structure supporting the climbing wires – i.e. the abstracted plants. This allows to keep the wires flexible and in play with the frame.
