Silver925, Stainless Steel / 500x20x20mm
Fancy chain, 500 mm long, with hidden clasp.
As opposed to necklaces, jewellery chains have neither front nor rear, nor any centre of gravity. In the design of this object, I therefore took care to provide total visibility of each of the elements including the possibility for a full 360 degrees rotation. The only way to provide this effect was by choosing ball joints for linking the elements.
This chain is, basically, a continuous loop spiralling around a common middle axis. The rotating effect gives the impression of each element drilling itself into the next one. The individual spirals were first sawed out of sheet metal and then raised. To prevent subsequent deformation, the elements are joined in the middle axis. The clasp consists of a snap-ball fastener for opening.
