Bowl with abstract breasts, standing on three nipples.
I created this bowl for the 2008 Hammerclub Competition. The subject chosen was inspired by the site of the event, s‘Hertogenbosch in the Netherlands, where around 1500 A.D. Hieronymus Bosch created his famous triptych „The Garden of Earthly Delights". My aim in creating this bowl was to show overflowing lust while at the same time respecting the traditions of this epoch. This resulted in a mixture between a studded goblet and the female breast. In contrast to the bowl‘s exterior, the interior surface was polished to a high gloss and is, as in the triptych by Hieronymus Bosch, the much more spectacular of the two faces: When the wings are closed, the painting has a much calmer effect than when they are open.
The production method used also echoes from historical times. The heyday of metal chasing is long gone. However, it is one of the best ways to treat metal as if painting in oil. Moreover, when shaping breasts, you always need a certain sensitive touch.
